about us
At Lanterna Magica Photography, our mission is simple: to help photographers grow — no matter their starting point. Whether you’re picking up a camera for the first time or refining an established style, we believe that anyone with curiosity, passion, and a willingness to learn can make meaningful progress.
We teach the way photographers learn best: out in the field, in real light, real weather, and real situations. Our workshops are designed around hands-on practice, where you can experiment, ask questions, get personalised guidance, and immediately try new techniques on location. Again and again, we’ve seen participants make breakthroughs in a single week that might otherwise take years.
Our Approach
What sets us apart is our commitment to personal attention.
We don’t focus on taking our own photos during workshops — we focus on you.
That means one-to-one coaching, tailored guidance, and instructors who stay present and engaged from sunrise to sunset. Our goal is for you to leave not only with strong images, but with skills, understanding, and confidence that stay with you long after the trip is over
Who We Are
Our workshops are led by two dedicated instructors with complementary strengths and decades of combined experience:
Bjørn Joachimsen – A versatile Norwegian photographer with more than 20 years of professional experience across people, nature, architecture, and commercial work. Bjørn is one of Norway’s most active photography instructors, known for his deep technical knowledge, calm teaching style, and extensive background with Lightroom and Photoshop. His workshops combine structure, creativity, and a clear focus on growth. Explore Bjørn’s work here: www.joachimsenphotography.com
Terje Svendsen – A full-time landscape and cityscape photographer from Norway who has built a thriving photography business and led workshops across Europe, including Paris, Italy, and the Dolomites. Terje is passionate about helping photographers find strong compositions, understand light, and return home with portfolio-worthy images. He knows the locations intimately and brings a friendly, motivating presence to every workshop. Explore Terje’s work here: www.terjephotography.com
Together, we offer a learning environment that is supportive, inspiring, and deeply practical — a space where photographers of all levels can grow, explore, and connect with others who share the same passion.
Why Choose Us
Personal, hands-on instruction
We keep our groups small so every participant receives real one-to-one guidance in the field. We stay focused on teaching — not taking our own portfolio shots. Your progress is our priority.
Learn in real conditions, not a classroom
Photography is best learned outside, with changing light, new environments, and real situations. Our workshops take place entirely on location, where you can experiment, ask questions, and apply techniques immediately.
Designed for every skill level
Whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced photographer, we meet you where you are. You’ll get personalised coaching that matches your pace and goals, without pressure or intimidation.
Deep local knowledge of each destination
We know the cities and landscapes we teach in — the iconic spots, the hidden corners, and the exact time when the light is at its best. This local insight helps you create stronger, more intentional images.
Rapid growth in a short time
Again and again, we see participants make more progress in one dedicated week than they would in years on their own. Structured days, professional guidance, and steady practice create powerful breakthroughs.
A supportive and inspiring learning environment
Workshops are not just about photos — they’re about community. You’ll travel, learn, and create alongside others who share your passion, with evenings spent sharing images, stories, and inspiration.
Continued learning after the trip
Your development doesn’t end when the workshop does. All workshops include online follow-up sessions where we review your images, refine edits, and help you continue growing at home.
