Join professional photographers Kristin Devor and Terje Svendsen for eight days of photography among Vega’s islands, mountains, wildlife and coastal communities. Why Photograph Vega?
Just south of the Arctic Circle, Vega brings together mountains, beaches, fishing settlements, wildlife and open sea within a compact island landscape. The archipelago’s UNESCO-listed cultural heritage reflects a centuries-old relationship between coastal communities and wild eider ducks.
For photographers, the variety is exceptional: expansive seascapes, rocky shores, green farmland, traditional boathouses, birdlife and quiet details. The long spring days offer extended opportunities for warm evening light, pastel skies and the subtle blue tones of the luminous northern night.
Our schedule remains flexible so we can respond to the weather, light, tides, wildlife activity and ferry conditions.
Daily Programme
This itinerary describes the planned structure of the workshop. Locations and activities may be changed to make the best possible use of the weather, light, wildlife activity and ferry conditions.
Day 1 (May 14):
Arrival in Brønnøysund
Participants arrive independently in Brønnøysund and check into the group hotel.
In the evening, we meet for introductions and an informal welcome session. We will discuss the programme, local conditions and equipment, as well as each participant’s photographic experience and personal goals.
Overnight: Brønnøysund
Day 2 (May 15):
Torghatten and the Journey to Vega
After breakfast, our photographic adventure begins at Torghatten, one of the most distinctive landmarks on the Helgeland coast.
The mountain is famous for the enormous natural hole passing through its centre. Both the mountain and the surrounding coastal landscape provide excellent opportunities to explore perspective, scale, composition and the character of the northern landscape.
Later in the day, we travel to the ferry and continue to Vega. The crossing gives us our first views of the archipelago, with islands, open sea and distant mountains establishing the setting for the coming week.
After checking into Vega Havhotell, we may finish the day with a short evening photography session if the light is promising.
Day 3 (May 16):
Vega’s Coastal and Cultural Landscape
We explore the visual variety of Vega’s main island, including rocky shores, beaches, farmland, old boathouses and small coastal communities.
We will consider how natural features and traces of human activity can work together within a composition. There will be opportunities to photograph both expansive landscapes and more intimate details, while experimenting with perspective, reflections and different shutter speeds.
Our locations will be selected according to the weather and light, with the possibility of an extended evening session.
Day 4 (May 17):
Norwegian Constitution Day on Vega
Norway’s Constitution Day gives us an opportunity to experience and photograph a special side of island life.
The celebrations may include flags, traditional costumes, families, music and the atmosphere of Norway’s national day. We will work unobtrusively, looking for moments, gestures and details that communicate the character of the occasion.
During the quieter parts of the day, we may also photograph the island’s villages, cultural landscape or coastline. If the evening light is favourable, we will conclude with a landscape session.
Day 5 (May 18):
Birds, Wildlife and the Eider Tradition
Vega has exceptionally rich birdlife, with more than 230 species recorded in the archipelago and approximately 110 species known to breed in the area.
We will look for opportunities to photograph seabirds, shorebirds and ducks within Vega’s varied habitats.
An image-review or Lightroom session may be included during the middle of the day or if the weather is less suitable for field photography.
Day 6 (May 19):
The Vega Archipelago
Weather permitting, an optional boat trip offers views of islands, skerries, coastal settlements, seabirds and possible sea eagles. An alternative photography programme will be arranged on the main island if needed.
A journey among the islands offers a different perspective on the World Heritage landscape, with possible opportunities to photograph open seascapes, skerries, coastal settlements, seabirds and white-tailed sea eagles.
Participants who prefer not to join—or if the weather prevents the trip—will be offered an alternative photography programme on Vega’s main island.
Day 7 (may 20):
Creative Photography and the Complete Workflow
Our final full day on Vega combines field photography with image selection, individual guidance and post-processing.
We will work with participants’ photographs in Adobe Lightroom, following the process from selecting the strongest RAW files to producing a carefully finished image.
Each participant will receive individual help with image selection and processing. The day concludes with an informal group review and a celebration of the week’s work.
If the weather offers us a final evening of beautiful light, we will make the most of it
Day 8 (May 21):
Return to Brønnøysund
After breakfast, we return by ferry and road to Brønnøysund, where the workshop concludes. Recommended departure times will be provided before participants book their return travel.
Ambitions & Goals
This workshop is about your growth and your images. Many photo tours emphasize being at the right location at the right time — but then the instructors often focus on taking their own shots. Our philosophy is different. We’re there to guide you personally, whether that means:
fine-tuning your composition on the spot,
helping you master camera settings in tricky light, or
offering constructive feedback as you work.
With a small-group format (maximum four participants per instructor), you’ll receive close personal attention and one-to-one coaching every day. The aim is for every participant to return home with portfolio-worthy photographs and new confidence in their skills.
Equally important is the community: the workshop is a shared learning and inspiration experience. You’ll not only improve your photography, but also enjoy the camaraderie of traveling and photographing together in one of the most extraordinary and varied landscape regions in Northern Norway.

Meet the Instructors

Kristin Devor is a Norwegian photographer based in Hemsedal, just below Skogshorn at nearly 900 meters above sea level. With a lifelong connection to the camera and seven years working full-time, she’s known for capturing both sweeping mountain landscapes and the smallest natural details, often going the extra mile in challenging conditions to get the image.
She has held several exhibitions in both Hemsedal and Oslo. Her photographs are frequently published in the local newspaper Hallingdølen, and she has received multiple first prizes in photography competitions. Kristin takes on a wide range of assignments (excluding studio work) and is equipped for most photo jobs.

Terje is a full-time Norwegian photographer specializing in landscapes and cityscapes. He leads workshops in Paris, Italy, and the Dolomites, and knows Paris particularly well from previous workshops there. His work is showcased through exhibitions and available as fine art prints.

When you reserve your place, a $500 deposit is charged to secure your spot. The remaining balance is invoiced closer to the workshop start, usually about two months before departure. Your place is only confirmed once the deposit has been received.

The workshop starts at Brønnøysund Airport at 11:00 AM on May 14, 2027 and ends at Brønnøysund Airport at 1:00 PM on May 21, 2027. We recommend planning your flights so you arrive in good time before the start and allow enough time after the end of the workshop. description

a sturdy tripod
a cable release or wireless remote
ND filters if you use them
extra batteries and memory cards
a laptop or tablet for editing if you want to review images during the trip
If you are unsure about gear, contact us before departure.

Northern Norway weather can change quickly even in summer, especially near the coast, in the mountains, and around glacier areas. Bring layered clothing, a waterproof shell, solid footwear with good grip, and warm extra layers for early mornings and evenings. A rain cover for yourself and your camera bag is also a good idea.

The workshop is open to photographers at different levels of experience. You do not need to be advanced, but you should be comfortable using your own camera and have the basic gear needed for the trip. If you are unsure about lenses, filters, or other equipment, get in touch before the workshop and we’ll be happy to advise.
