Northern Norway Landscape Photography Workshop

August 2 – 8, 2026 (7 Days / 6 Nights)

RESERVE YOUR SPOT

Nordland in Northern Norway is home to some of the most extraordinary landscapes in Europe, from the marble formations of Marmorslottet to the alpine karst of Láhko National Park and the glacier of Svartisen. These are not the typical over-photographed locations. They’re wild, varied, and still feel like a discovery.

Throughout the week you’ll get personal, hands-on guidance in the field. We work in small groups and spend our time where the light is best, helping you with composition, technique, and decision-making on location. You’ll also get clear feedback on your images along the way, so you head home with stronger photos and a more confident approach in the landscape.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN AT THE WORKSHOP

  •  Craft strong landscape compositions with depth, clean lines, and a clear focal point.

  • Work with Northern Norwegian light at sunrise, sunset, and in fast-changing weather.

  •  Read weather and adapt quickly to fog, low cloud, rain, and shifting atmosphere.

  • Scout and pre-visualize scenes so you know what you’re looking for before you set up.

  • Photograph both the “wow” landscapes (marble, karst, glacier) and quieter details and textures.

  • Build a cohesive set of images with personal guidance in the field and structured feedback sessions.

  • Use long exposures (with or without filters) to shape water and cloud movement in a controlled way.

  • Improve technical confidence with exposure, focus, sharpness, and efficient tripod workflow.

Ambitions & Goals

This workshop is about your growth and your images. Many photo tours emphasize being at the right location at the right time — but then the instructors often focus on taking their own shots. Our philosophy is different. We’re there to guide you personally, whether that means:

  • fine-tuning your composition on the spot,

  • helping you master camera settings in tricky light, or

  • offering constructive feedback as you work.

With a small-group format (maximum six participants per instructor), you’ll receive close personal attention and one-to-one coaching every day. The aim is for every participant to return home with portfolio-worthy photographs and new confidence in their skills.

Equally important is the community: the workshop is a shared learning and inspiration experience. You’ll not only improve your photography, but also enjoy the camaraderie of shooting and dining together in one of the world’s most photogenic cities

  • Northern Norway weather can change fast, even in summer. Expect a mix of mild days, wind, and chilly mornings, especially near the coast, mountains, and glacier areas. Pack for flexibility:

    • A solid layering system (base layer + mid layer + shell) so you can adjust quickly

    • Waterproof, windproof shell jacket and rain pants (rain and wind matter more than “cold”)

    • Sturdy hiking shoes/boots with good grip for wet rock, uneven paths, and slick terrain

    • Warm hat and gloves, plus a light insulated jacket or warm mid-layer for early mornings

    • Quick-dry trousers (avoid jeans) and moisture-wicking base layers

    • Wool or technical hiking socks (bring a couple of extra pairs)

    • Buff/neck gaiter for wind and changing conditions

    • Rain cover for you and your backpack/camera bag (or a poncho that covers both)

    • Sunglasses and sunscreen (yes, even up north, and glare can be strong near water/snow/ice)

    • Thin “camera-friendly” gloves if your hands get cold while shooting

    • Headlamp: It won’t get very dark in July, but a small headlamp can still be handy for hands-free packing, tunnels/forested paths, or moving around at dawn/dusk in poor weather

  • This is not a heavy-hiking workshop, but you should be comfortable walking in nature with a backpack and camera gear.

    • Láhko National Park: On some days we may walk up to about 2 hours each way to reach the most spectacular areas. The route follows trails, with very small elevation change, so it’s more about steady walking than steep climbs.

    • Marmorslottet: Roughly 20 minutes each way from the parking area. There is some uphill on parts of the route.

    • Engenbreen / Svartisen: The hike to the glacier is the most demanding walk of the week. It involves a sustained ascent and can feel tough, especially with a photo backpack and changing weather. We follow the least strenuous route and take it at a steady pace, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way.

    • If that hike isn’t for you, no problem. We have strong alternatives where you can still photograph Svartisen and the surrounding landscape without the tough hike, so you’ll get great images and a full workshop day either way.

  • We accept all level of experience in photography, but just make sure you have the gear needed; otherwise it will be no fun for you. If you are missing a lens or a ND filter don’t worry about it!

  • Yes — you’re welcome to bring a plus one.

A non-photographing partner/friend can join the trip at a $1,000 discount (compared to the standard workshop price). They’ll still need to cover their share of accommodation and transport.

Please tell us as soon as you book if you plan to bring someone, so we can secure the extra hotel space and seat in the vans.

  • If you have more questions regarding the workshop don’t hesitate to contact us at: terje@terjephotography.com
