Photograph the Swiss Alps in Autumn
The Engadin is a high alpine valley in southeastern Switzerland, surrounded by the peaks and glaciers of the Bernina Range.
In late October, the larch forests turn gold, the air becomes crisp and clear, and the highest mountains may receive their first covering of snow. Alpine lakes reflect the surrounding peaks, while mist, cloud and changing weather can create dramatic and atmospheric conditions.
During the workshop, we photograph both the grand alpine landscape and the quieter details that make this region special.
Our subjects may include:
Golden larch forests
Reflective mountain lakes
Glaciers and snow-covered peaks
Alpine rivers and streams
Panoramic mountain views
Intimate woodland scenes
Autumn colour and early winter conditions
Textures, patterns and details within the landscape
You do not need to be familiar with the Engadin before joining us. Part of the experience is discovering one of Switzerland’s most beautiful mountain regions with the guidance of a local photographer.
What to expect
This workshop combines iconic locations with hands-on instruction and a thoughtfully planned route through the Dolomites.
We photograph at sunrise and sunset whenever conditions are good, and use the middle of the day for travel, scouting, image review, rest, or locations that work well in softer or changing light. The exact rhythm may shift with weather and conditions, but the focus throughout is on helping you get the most out of each day.
During the workshop, we help you work on:
Composition in both grand landscapes and more intimate scenes
Use of foreground, depth, layering, and visual balance
Reading weather and mountain light
Camera settings and field technique
Making stronger image choices on location
Building a more consistent set of photographs from each session
The goal is not only that you come home with strong images, but that you leave with more confidence and a better understanding of how to approach landscape photography in the field.
Why Choose This Workshop?
Local Knowledge of the Engadin
Andrea brings detailed knowledge of the region, including seasonal conditions, mountain access and photographic locations. This local experience allows us to adapt the programme throughout the week and choose the best available locations for the light and weather.
Two Instructors and Personal Guidance
With no more than six participants per instructor, there is time for individual support in the field. We help with composition, camera settings, lens choice, filters and technical questions, while also encouraging you to develop a more intentional and personal approach to landscape photography.
A Wide Variety of Landscapes
This workshop is not built around a single viewpoint. During the week, we photograph glaciers, lakes, mountain panoramas, forests, valleys, rivers and smaller landscape details. That variety gives us strong photographic possibilities in both dramatic and quieter conditions.
Comfortable, Simple Logistics
We stay all six nights at the same accommodation in St. Moritz, so there is no need to pack and change hotels during the workshop.Airport transfers, workshop transport, cable cars and the main local transport required by the itinerary are included.
A Small and Supportive Group
The group is kept small so participants receive personal attention and have room to work at each location. The atmosphere is relaxed, supportive and focused on helping everyone develop as a
What You Will Learn
Throughout the workshop, we will work on:
Creating stronger and more intentional compositions
Simplifying complex mountain scenes
Using foreground, depth, balance and visual flow
Understanding how light affects mood and atmosphere
Working with cloud, mist, snow and changing weather
Photographing both grand landscapes and intimate details
Choosing the most effective lens and focal length
Refining camera settings and field technique
Moving beyond the obvious viewpoint
Developing a more personal way of seeing
Building a cohesive group of images
The teaching is adapted to your experience level and photographic goals.
Is This Workshop Right for You?
The workshop is suitable for photographers from beginner to advanced level.
You should have a basic familiarity with your camera, but you do not need to be an expert. We provide help with exposure, focusing, filters, lens choice, composition and other technical questions throughout the week.
This workshop may suit you if you:
Enjoy landscape and nature photography
Want personal guidance in a small group
Are comfortable with early starts
Enjoy both panoramic scenery and intimate landscapes
Want to improve your composition and field technique
Prefer not to drive or manage local transport yourself
Are comfortable walking on mountain paths
The workshop is focused on photography rather than strenuous hiking, but several sessions require moderate walking.
Physical Requirements
Participants should be comfortable walking on uneven mountain paths while carrying their own camera equipment.
Some walks take place before sunrise or after sunset, so a headlamp is required. Paths may be wet, muddy, icy or snow-covered.
The longest planned walk is the return from Val di Campo after sunset:
Approximately 6.1 km
Mostly downhill
Around 1 hour 30 minutes
Other planned walks generally range from 30 to 45 minutes.
Val Roseg will be reached either by e-bike or private taxi, depending on the final arrangement.
Participants should also be comfortable:
Walking in low light
Carrying camera equipment
Spending several hours outdoors
Working in cold, windy or wet conditions
Travelling by cable car, funicular and mountain shuttle
Using an e-bike, if that option is selected for Val Roseg
Please contact us before booking if you are uncertain whether the physical requirements are suitable for you.
A Typical Day
Our days are shaped by the light, weather and mountain conditions.
We normally begin before sunrise and travel to the selected location while the landscape is still quiet. After the morning session, we return for breakfast or continue to another nearby area.
The middle of the day may be used for:
Rest and personal time
Image reviews
Informal editing discussions
Scouting
Travel between locations
Photographing forests and smaller details
In the afternoon, we return to the field for another session that may continue through sunset and blue hour.
Some days may be long when conditions are promising. Other days will include more time to rest, review images and prepare for the next session.
Planned Itinerary
The itinerary below shows the locations we plan to photograph.
Mountain weather can change quickly, and cable cars, roads and high-altitude locations may be affected by wind, snow or maintenance. The order of the programme may therefore be adjusted to give the group the best available photography and safest possible experience.

We start at Venice Marco Polo Airport on Day 1 (pick-up at 11:00) and finish back at the airport on the last day (drop-off around 15:00).

Most days are built around the best light, with a flexible plan that adapts to weather and the group’s pace. A typical day may include:
Sunrise shoot (early start at a nearby viewpoint)
Breakfast + rest
A flexible midday plan (scouting, a short hike, image review, or a break depending on conditions)
Sunset / blue hour shoot
Optional evening review or discussion
On transfer days, we’ll move to a new base in the Dolomites. We keep these days efficient and still include photography:
short stops at scenic locations along the way
an afternoon/evening shoot near the new base (and sunrise the next morning)
We share the plan in advance so you always know what’s coming next.
-
Transport between bases and to shooting locations is arranged in comfortable vans, making it easy to reach a wide range of locations without stress. We also plan the logistics so you can focus on photography.
-
This isn’t a hiking-heavy workshop, but some locations do involve short walks or moderate trails. Expect a mix of steps, rocky paths, and gentle inclines. You should feel comfortable carrying your camera gear for short distances.
There’s also an optional hike of about 1.5 hours for anyone who wants to reach more remote viewpoints. It includes moderate elevation changes but offers some of the best photo opportunities of the trip.
-
Mountain weather can change quickly, and we plan for that. If conditions shift, we adapt by:
changing locations to match the light and cloud level
using forests, lakes, waterfalls, and moody scenes that work well in overcast/rain
adjusting timing to shoot during the best windows
You’ll still get strong shooting opportunities. description

-
Yes — you’re welcome to bring a partner or spouse, as long as we have availability (they take up a seat in the vans).
A non-photographing partner can join the trip at a $1,000 discount compared to the standard workshop fee. They’re welcome to join the outdoor sessions and enjoy the locations with the group, but coaching and tutoring are reserved for registered photography participants.
Accommodation for partners is not included. If you’re sharing a room, we’ll invoice the additional cost for double occupancy (the exact amount depends on the room setup at each hotel).
Please let us know at the time of booking so we can reserve the right room arrangement.
